We offer a lot of services at no extra cost.
- Server monitoring and alerts
- Get an email whenever your box is unavailable whether that be through a DDoS attack, a firewall configured incorrectly, the box crashing, or it being turned off for any reason. We've been using this internally for a while and after a short but promising trial we've decided to make it available to everyone. More details about the alerts service can be found on the wiki at
- The admin shell
- For virtual machines you can now access an admin shell which allows you to stop, start, reboot, access the console, and get information about your virtual machine. More details on the wiki at
- Backup service
- rm -rf /etc/* ... oops! We're running a backup service. We've been running it for our own boxes for a while and it works great for us, but since it's such an essential service we're running it only as a trial service for the next few months to see how it holds up under heavier load. If you'd like to trial this service, check out the wiki page at Note that the backup service and alert service combined will send you alerts if anything goes wrong with your backups, and will send you a warning if your most recent backup is more than 4 hours old.
- Local time sever
- Getting the time right is incredibly important for many things, especially online. We run a local time server that all our servers synchronise against. You might want to synchronise against it too.
- Ubuntu package mirror
- We run a lot of Ubuntu boxes so we've setup a local mirror of the binary packages. This saves us time as it means updates and upgrades are /extremely/ fast.
- Backup MX service
- If you're receiving email on your VM you should make use of our MX service. Three boxes that will make sure your email gets delivered even if your virtual machine shuts down or your MTA crashes.
- DNS Service
- Resolvers so your VM can translate domain names into IP addresses and interact with the world. Nameservers which serve your DNS zones are under construction. Details will appear on the above page when they're available.
